Will Smith – C

  • Age: 22

  • # of seasons in the majors: 2

  • Predicted call-up: Opening Day 2019

It’s the year 2019. Ichiro Suzuki is still hitting homers up in Seattle. Mariano Rivera has recently been elected into the Hall of Fame. Clayton Kershaw is getting ready for 9th Opening Day start. Kids are walking around in “Buehler” jerseys.

It also happens to be Will Smith‘s first day in the majors.

As far as catching goes, the Dodgers are in a very, very good place. Yasmani Grandal can still hit 20 homers a year, Austin Barnes can probably hit 30. Grandal, however, could very well be playing for a different team by seasons end. He’s a strong piece in a trade package, and Austin Barnes and Kyle Farmer look to be the dynamic duo for the Dodgers behind the plate.

Will Smith, however, is the future.

Kyle Farmer can play third. Austin Barnes can play second. There may come a time when that becomes necessary, and a spot opens up behind the plate. That spot belongs to Will Smith. His walk rate is great, and with another year or so in the minors, his hitting will be stellar.

Will Smith has the potential to be elite, and should he stay in Dodger blue until he is called up, the entirety of LA will get to witness all of those possibilities finally play out.

More Dodgers are on their way to the show, and when they get here, LA will be what they have already started to become; an elite rarity unlike any other.
