The LA Rams are setting up to be the next NFL Dynasty
By Jason Reed
The New England Patriots are the prime example of a great sports dynasty. The LA Rams are setting up to create a new NFL dynasty.
Sports dynasty’s are rare. Every generation, there is a select number of teams across all major sports that can find a winning formula and maintain it for a long period of time. The Boston Celtics have the best NBA dynasty ever, the New York Yankees and New England Patriots are their respective sport’s best dynasty. The LA Rams are doing all the right things to become their own dynasty.
Football dynasty’s are not your typical dynasty. While the NBA will have the Golden State Warriors (most likely) win three titles in four years, or the MLB will have the San Francisco Giants win three World Series in five years, the NFL does not get the same results.
Teams rarely win bunched championships together and when they do, it often maxes out at two. Two of the Patriots five Super Bowl wins since 2000 were back-to-back. Their two most recent wins came in 2015 and 2017; the team did not make it in 2016.
However, the Patriots are always in the picture. But they are the outlier, they are the one football team that has been able to prolong the dynasty past five season. That is what happens when you get one of the best coaches and the best quarterback of all-time on the same team.
Aside from the outlier, football dynasty’s often last half a decade. Think the Seattle Seahawks and the Legion of Boom; or the Buffalo Bills of the early 1990’s. These teams were among the best in the NFL for half a decade or so. Although they may have stayed in the playoff picture longer, their title window was right around five years.
The Philadelphia Eagles seem to be the next dynasty; taking over the proverbial torch from the Patriots with their victory in Super Bowl LII. Understandably so.
However, the LA Rams are also pulling all the right strings to create an NFL dynasty of their own. The team is checking all of the boxes.

Great head coach with a lot to prove? Check. Good young quarterback with a ton of potential to build around? Check. A serious play maker on either the offense or the defense that is top three in their position? Well, the LA Rams have two (Todd Gurley and Aaron Donald, if he re-signs). Check.
The team is young and they are not settling. The front office went out and turned a mediocre secondary into one of the best in the NFL with Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib. They are not stopping there, either, as Ndamukong Suh is the latest named to be tied to the LA Rams.
After a meeting with the Rams, and a cancelled meeting with the Oakland Raiders, Suh coming to LA is becoming a serious possibility. While the Rams cannot pay him as much as other teams, Suh has the possibility to form something special alongside Donald and Michael Brockers.
The LA Rams are already really good without Suh. They have the NFL Draft to replace Sammy Watkins and get a good inside linebacker. The team was really good without Peters and Talib too, that did not stop them.
Next: Simulating a season with Ndamukong Suh on the Rams
Los Angeles has been busy, and for good reason. The front office is smartly realizing that the window for a title in the NFL is tiny. Teams must capitalize on it while the opportunity is young; the Rams are setting themselves up to be elite for another five years.
