The only thing that will stop the Chargers from success is themselves

The Los Angeles Chargers head into 2018 with one of the most well-rounded rosters the team has fielding in years, prompting high expectations.

The Los Angeles Chargers look scary good heading into 2018. So good that Joey Nicks of Bolt Beat thinks the team can make a run to the Super Bowl. While I will not go that far (mainly to prevent myself from a broken heart), it is fair to say that this Chargers team has the most potential of any team of the 2010s.

The roster looks practically complete with very little holes. The run defense is still the biggest issue, however, should be resolved with new draft pieces and a healthy Denzel Perryman.

Rushing the passer is still a strong suit for the Chargers and secondary got even scarier with the first round pickup of Derwin James. James was touted as a proverbial top-10 talent and the Chargers somehow landed him with the 17th overall pick.

Offensively, the team should be able to pick up from a hot finish to last season. The receiving core is already great and will only get better with a healthy Mike Williams. Melvin Gordon is still a big threat on the ground and the offensive line may be Rivers’ best he has had since the LT days.

The Chargers have all the pieces to win a Super Bowl, however, this is not the first time you have heard this. Heck, the team went 14-2 in 2006 and still did not win anything.

That is because in past years the Chargers beat, well, themselves. This year, the only thing that can stop the Chargers from massive success is themselves.

And this is a bit of a weird concept to grasp. But if you follow the team, you understand that LA probably has the worst luck out of any NFL franchise. Every team deals with things such as injuries and whatnot; the Chargers deal with on-field mistakes.

Whether it is missed kicks, coaching blunders or coming up short when it matters most, the team seems to get the wrong side of the coin more often than not. When this doesn’t happen, LA is one of the most explosive, scary teams in the league; evident by the Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys last year.

However, when the team is not firing on all cylinders and begins to trip over its own feet, it resorts back to the same team that started the season 0-4 and ultimately could not rebound enough for the NFL Playoffs.

The Los Angeles Chargers definitely has what it takes to beat any team in the NFL, even the Steelers and Patriots.

Now, it is just a matter of staying calm, cool and collective. If the Chargers can do that, there is no reason that the team cannot make a deep, and perhaps a Super Bowl, run.
