Los Angeles Dodgers Beat the Streak selections — May 21
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Dodgers’ offense is picking up and the team has won four straight games; our Beat the Streak series is benefitting.
While there certainly is a long way to go before we get too optimistic, the Los Angeles Dodgers have turned the tide with a four-game winning streak that included a sweep over the Washington Nationals.
Due to the Arizona Diamondback’s cold streak, the Dodgers are only five games back of first place in the NL West. Of course, the team is still six games under .500, so there definitely is a lot more work to do.
The Dodgers ender a huge series, hosting the Colorado Rockies for the first time this season. If LA can manage a sweep of the Rockies, the team will catapult a game ahead of Colorado; hopefully gaining a game or two on the Diamondbacks in the process.
Without further ado, let’s get into who we think will get a base hit in game one of the series by reviewing Sunday’s selections.

Sunday’s picks:
On Sunday, I went with Justin Turner, who matched up nicely against Stephen Strasburg. Turner entered the game with a 3-5 batting line against Strasburg with two home runs under his belt. Despite that, Turner put up an ugly donut, going 0-5 on the day. The silver lining is that he was hitting the ball hard.
Sarah went with Cody Bellinger, who also put up a goose egg with a 0-5 performance at the plate. In fact, the 1-3 hitters went a combined 0-13 on Sunday, with everyone in the bottom half of the order, aside from the pitcher, picking up at least one hit.
Sarah’s pick — Current streak 0: Justin Turner
My pick for tonight’s game against the Rockies is easy; Justin Turner. Turner is the Dodgers’ hottest hitter but has some competition given how well the team played this past series. I will admit, I didn’t think that Turner’s return would have this big of an impact but here I am, happily accepting defeat.
This weekend’s series against the Nationals was exactly what they needed. After a stretch of about three weeks where the Dodgers played absolutely heartbreaking baseball, this team seems to be back, and Turner has been a big part of that.
In 21 ABs since coming off the DL, he’s knocked in 5 on 7 hits and has been excellent at taking his pitches. He’s helped turn this offense around and has done it all without hitting a homer.
Never believe anyone who says that a strong presence in the clubhouse doesn’t result in on-field success.
The Rockies have been good lately, but so are the Nationals. I, for one, have chosen to stop paying attention to “good teams” and “bad teams” and just focus on how the team is playing on a given day. With Turner leading the charge, the Dodgers will, hopefully, be just fine.
Jason’s pick — Current streak 0: Cody Bellinger
Sarah and I are going with the old switcheroo, selecting each other’s picks from the game prior that both went 0-5. This is definitely the first time this has happened in this series and should pan out for the both of us.
Statistically speaking, there should be no chance that Cody Bellinger goes hitless in eight or nine straight at-bats. Thus, simply using the law of averages, it is a safe assertion that Bellinger is due for a base knock.

However, the favorable matchup also plays a role as Bellinger should be able to hit the struggling German Marquez with ease. The young right-handed pitcher is struggling and is the perfect type of pitcher to give Bellinger a big night that could include multiple home runs.
