2. Can Sam Shields return to form and become the team’s third corner?

The Los Angeles Rams were not done adding corners with just Marcus Peters and Aqib Talib, although that would have been more than enough. The front office also took a waiver out on 2014 Pro Bowl corner, Sam Shields.

Shields sat out all of the 2017-2018 season due to multiple concussions he had received while playing with the Green Bay Packers. Prior to signing with the Rams, it was unsure whether or not Shields’ career in the NFL was over.

Despite not playing in a game since October 2016, the Los Angeles Rams signed Shields to one-year, $915 thousand contract. A pretty small gamble for what could be a huge payoff.

Right now, Shields appears to be the team’s third cornerback ahead of Nickell Robey-Coleman, at least that is how it seems on the Rams’ first depth chart.

The preseason is going to be a huge telling sign of whether or not Shields is in game shape and whether or not he can be a good option to use in nickel and dime packages.

The Los Angeles Rams do not even need the Pro Bowl version of Shields, just 80 percent of Shields at his peak would give the Rams arguably the best 1-2-3 punch at cornerback in the NFL.

Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens will be the first time that fans can see exactly what Shields can offer.
