Dodgers Have No Excuse Not to Win World Series After Game Two Victory
By Rami Hanna
Twenty-four hours after a dramatic Game 1 victory, Dodgers fans filled up Chavez Ravine once again to witness another night of World Series baseball from the Boys in Blue who were looking to take a two-to-zero series lead against a team that almost had their number in the final half.
The last time Yoshinobu Yamamoto took the mound against the New York Yankees was in his first couple of starts in his first official year in the MLB as part of the Dodgers. In that game, Yamamoto would keep the three-headed dragon scoreless for seven innings but walked out of that game with an injury that would keep him off the roster for the next couple of months before he returned prior to the end of the regular season.
History was made on Friday night for Los Angeles. Not just the team, but the entire city who witnessed USC beat Rutgers, the Los Angeles Lakers defeat the Phoenix Suns, and the Dodgers defeat the Yankees all in the same night. But, the biggest moment of them all was when fans around the world got to watch history being made when Freddie Freeman struck a Grand Slam walk-off bomb in the bottom of the tenth inning to win Game 1 of the 2024 World Series.
Now, it was all about keeping up that momentum on the mound and in each at-bat that would become more important as the game progressed. The second game of the series would be opened up by the one-and-only, Ice Cube, who performed back-to-back hits 'Bow Down' and 'Today Was A Good Day' to hype up the crowd and light a fuel in the Dodgers who were looking to take a big lead against the number one team with the most championships in the Fall classic.
When they needed him the most, Tommy Edman proved once again why his nickname is Tanks after he blasted a deep shot into left field to put the Dodgers on the scoreboard first, showcasing how he was named the MVP to the National League Championship Series where he came to the Dodgers on the IL and is now one of the most important pieces to the Dodgers offense puzzle.
That was not the end of the push from the Dodgers who would treat the bottom of the third as a celebration for home runs when Teoscar Hernandez brought in a two-run home run before fans witnessed Freeman come in and walk out with another shotgun blast home run to extend the lead they needed to stray away from the power that the Yankees carried with each man in their lineup.
Yamamoto repeated the same powerhouse pressure that he had in the regular season when he pitched for six innings, allowed a hit, a run, but struck out Aaron Judge and prevented the Yankees from getting out of the struggles they faced in game one that led to the Dodgers walking away with the bottom of the tenth nail biter that kept LA up all night.
The Boys in Blue took Game 2 of the 2024 World Series when Blake Treinen was brought in to save the game. Despite allowing a run, Treinen was not able to shake off the nerves, allowing the bases to get loaded before the Dodgers brought in Alex Vesia who prevented an upset.
Vesia was able to get a flyball out to end the second game of the series with a huge win to take a two-to-nothing lead against the Yankees, who have Monday-Wednesday in New York to turn the tides around and find themselves a win in the World Series.
