The NFL offseason is an exciting time that often leaves little room to breathe. Los Angeles Rams fans are familiar with this feeling as general manager Les Snead has been fairly active this offseason, handing out seven new contracts since the start of free agency — including new faces like wideout Davante Adams and defensive tackle Poona Ford.

Having said that, activity around the league is slowing down now that the second week of free agency is ending. The lull in signings offers the perfect opportunity for the Rams fanbase to check in on some of the franchise's former players, including a recently failed draft pick that just joined an AFC contender.

Rams News: Chiefs Sign CB Robert Rochell in Free Agency

On Friday evening, NFL insider Adam Schefter reported that the Kansas City Chiefs have signed former Rams cornerback Robert Rochell to a one-year contract.

Rams fans will remember Rochell from his two seasons in L.A. after being drafted 130th overall in 2021. The former Central Michigan product only recorded 16 solo tackles, four defended passes, two fumble recoveries, and an interception in 28 games with the team before being released ahead of the 2023 season.

Rochell briefly spent time on the Seattle Seahawks and Carolina Panthers practice squads before being added to the Green Bay Packers' unit in late October 2023. He's since played 20 games with the Packers over the last two seasons, recording only six solo tackles as he's spent 233 snaps on special teams compared to one on defense.

Considering how he's only played 27 defensive snaps since 2022, it's safe to say the Chiefs signed Rochell to be a special teamer again. Having said that, his 43.9 Pro Football Focus special teams grade was a new personal low, leaving time to tell if joining Kansas City's unit — which graded third-best in 2024 — will help turn his career around.

Joining a Super Bowl contender is sometimes good enough to motivate a player to give it his all. Hopefully, Rochell capitalizes on his latest opportunity. Just because he didn't work out for the Rams a few years ago doesn't mean he can't thrive with the Chiefs this fall.
