Rams Find Surprise Matthew Stafford Successor in New Offseason Prediction
The 2025 offseason could end up being one of the most pivotal in Sean McVay's time as head coach of the Los Angeles Rans. Veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp and quarterback Matthew Stafford face tough decisions regarding their future with the team. While Kupp has already confirmed he will be playing another season, his future with the Rams remains uncertain.
Stafford, on the other hand, has yet to confirm if he will be back for another season. As a result, speculation has begun to grow regarding what the Rams should do at quarterback, with some TV pundits suggesting a potential trade with the Miami Dolphins for Tua Tagovailoa.
While that trade seems highly unlikely, a more realistic possibility is that Los Angeles drafts a quarterback in the later rounds. Pro Football Network recently released a mock draft article suggesting the Rams could select former Ohio State Buckeye quarterback Will Howard in the third round this year.
Should the Rams Select Will Howard in the 2025 Draft?
"While he’s not yet a talent-elevator, which may limit his immediate NFL prospects, he has the tools to transition smoothly to the pros. With grit and strong leadership, Howard’s path to becoming an NFL starter will depend on how he performs when it matters most."

Entering the 2024 college football season, Howard was not thought of highly as a prospect. That said, after leading the Buckeyes to a national championship, some opinions have changed. Although questions remain about how Howard's talent will translate to the pros, he showed amazing leadership this season.
In 2024, Howard threw for 4,010 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. While Howard's stats look enticing, he was surrounded by an offense where most of the starters will be playing on Sundays.
Prior to this season, Howard played three years at Kansas State, having his best season in 2023, throwing for 2,643 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Suffice it to say questions about Howard's productivity at the next level are warranted.
Despite that, Los Angeles might be one of the best places for Howard to go to maximize his talent. For instance, McVay was able to get a team led by Jared Goff to a Super Bowl. Even though Goff was a first-round pick, he had many limitations to his game, and McVay worked around them.
Nevertheless, Howard is not as talented as Goff, so a pick like this might only work if Stafford plays for one more season.
