Jason Verrett

It may seem a bit odd to call a former pro bowler a candidate for a break out year, but I believe Jason Verrett can be something special. A Pro Bowler back in 2015, Verrett has all the signs of being a superstar in the making. Hopefully healthy heading into next season, Verrett may finally be able to live up to his full potential.

More from Los Angeles Chargers

Selected 25th overall in the 2014 draft, the Chargers have been hoping for Verrett to be the second coming of Quentin Jammer. Verrett showed signs of greatness in 2015, recording 42 tackles, three interceptions, one being a pick-six. However, injuries have constantly plagued Verrett, much like the rest of the Chargers, limiting his potential.

Outside of 2015 where he played in 14 games, Verret has only managed a combined ten games and eight starts in 2014 and 2016. Having a half season worth of experience over the course of two years certainly will hurt Verrett’s progression, and we have seen that first hand.

However, with Brandon Flowers heading out of San Diego, Verrett is now the guy in the Chargers secondary. While he arguably has been the best corner on the team since being drafted, now is the time the Chargers should let him off any leashes and allow him to play to his full potential.

Hopefully, for Chargers fans, Verrett could play up to his superstar potential. I think we can see Verrett be a top five corner in the game, with his speed and hands, it may come to fruition this season.

Well, there you have it Charger fans. As a die hard fan myself, I am hoping that we can have more than three break out performances, but for now, these three are a safe bet.
