Lakers free agency rumors: 15 free agents that will be available

Ty Lawson
Another option for them that could come from Sacramento is point guard Ty Lawson. Even if they draft Lonzo Ball in June, the Lakers need to make sure that guard depth is there for them to compete in the Western Conference.
Lawson may not be coming back to Sacramento, but a potential role for him to be a difference maker with the Lakers might be something he can’t pass up.

For Los Angeles, they’d be getting a guy that’s not too old but can still produce. With Sacramento last season, Lawson posted a stat line of 9.9 points, 4.8 assists, and 2.6 rebounds.
If anything, Lawson would be a good filler behind whatever point guard combination the Lakers end up having. Whether or not they start Lonzo Ball if they draft him is another question they’ll have to answer.
The reason that that is such an important thing to figure out is that it could mean D’Angelo Russell starts at shooting guard instead of what they drafted him to be. This last season showed he can be an off-ball scorer in addition to running the offense.
However, Ball has a very different style of play and it’ll be the team’s decision as to what tempo they want to run. Either way, Lawson would be a good backup to have just in case anything goes wrong with your main guys.
