While Lonzo Ball may be the popular choice for the Lakers in the 2017 NBA Draft, the latest Lakers rumors say otherwise.

There have been reports of Lakers rumors on whether they will take Lonzo Ball or De’Aaron Fox. LA has seemed to narrow down who they want to draft with their second overall pick in the draft.

Los Angeles has more picks in the draft. They have been holding workouts for other draft prospects that they can take with those picks. The Lakers rumors on them needing a true point guard is truer than ever.

I understand this sounds contradictory with all the players they have on the roster at that position. Just please hear me out for a minute.

De’Aaron is probably the best point guard they can take in the draft that will help LA out defensively. Also, All-Star John Wall thinks he is the best point guard in the 2017 NBA Draft Class.

Fox shut down Lonzo Ball in the NCAA Tournament. At first, the Lakers were looking at Ball until they evaluated Fox. LA needs defense, which Ball needs to improve tremendously. Additionally, Fox has a decent offensive game, but when it comes crunch time he is dangerous and explosive.

It is looking like the Lakers are closer to drafting Fox, since they are willing to trade Jordan Clarkson. Also, De’Angelo Russell would be their shooting guard. He performs better there.

Additionally, Fox wold be competing with Tyler Ennis for the starting point guard position and there is promise in both these players. Defense wins championships, therefore taking Fox is on the brighter side for the Lakers future.

Fox had a pre-draft workout with the Lakers recently. By doing this the Lakers are able to see in person who Fox really is.

More from Lakers Rumors

The know his game, but in person, they are able to understand his personality. As a point guard, you must show leadership skills and Fox has those. He will be a good fit for LA along with other players who can compete and share leadership roles.

Many fans and critics either don’t know or don’t mention this, but in high school, Fox was an athletic superstar for his team. I personally saw some highlights and the way he played reminded me of Russell Westbrook.

The Lakers need a player who can do everything along with making their team better and get their teammates involved. Yes, Fox has his own style of play, which starts with defense that leads to his offensive goodness.

Once again Fox is smart, versatile, and even spaces out the floor to help his team out. He has good court vision and is a playmaker. A playmaker is what the Lakers need. LA is closer to drafting Fox in the 2017 NBA Draft.
