Current Lakers rumors are about signing players from the free agent market.

Willie Reed is a free agent center who is the topic of recent Lakers rumors. Last season he played with the Miami Heat, backing up Hassan Whiteside.

Obviously, Reed is a good basketball player or he wouldn’t be in the NBA. Los Angeles has plenty of players at the center position fighting for the starting role. Bringing in Reed would create more competition, therefore lead to all the centers improving their game and skills.

However, the question is would the Lakers have room on the roster for Reed and the other three centers?

I would have to answer it depends on what Luke Walton and Magic Johnson plan to do with the roster.

More from Lakers Rumors

There have been reports of trading Jordan Clarkson and releasing Nick Young, which could make room for the center looking to make a name for himself. Most likely he would have to sign a minimum deal if the Lakers were to acquire a superstar athlete. Additionally, there is the factor they are going to draft players as well. Once again there is good news for Willie Reed.

The players who will be drafted could end up on the practice squad since there can only be so many players on the roster. Reed could even possibly end up on the practice squad or on the Lakers D-League team.

One situation LA can do is sign Reed to a Minimum deal and see how he does in practice over the summer. Observing his performances in practice would show Luke Walton what he wants to see.

It would show him okay shall I sign him to the team although he averages 5 points and 4 rebounds or let him develop in the D-League some more? By doing this he would be able to call Reed up anytime to play for LA when they need him.

Also, we have to think about the fact that certain players perform well with other teams because of the system that is in place.

Who knows Wilie Reed could be the third center who could change the Lakers for good. That would mean Mozgov would most likely have to leave.
